Happy December

Joyeux Noel tout le monde!

This weekend there are many opportunities to feel the spirit of the season, so get out while we're still unfrozen and join in the joie de vivre that is Acadian music. This Friday the Aces are back at Bull Feeney's for their monthly rage- an adults only affair.  However, not to leave anyone out, this Saturday Boreal Tordu will be playing a family-friendly house concert in Bowdoinham at the wonderful Whittlesey Residence.  Guaranteed by all accounts to be an extraordinary evening for all.  Check the websites below for more info, plus 2012 calendars, and information on how to get gift CDs in time for Christmas.  Have a great week and we'll see you this weekend!

Framingham rescheduled due to weather

We're sorry to report that Boréal Tordu's appearance at Amazing Things Arts Center tonight has been postponed due to inclement weather.  The new date is Saturday, March 10, 2012.

Meanwhile, consider coming up to our neck of the woods for a rare house concert in Bowdoinham.  By all accounts a warm, inviting atmosphere abides and we're looking forward to a festive evening of music and mirth:

Amazing Things in Mass.

Boréal Tordu is one of the many Amazing Things coming to the aptly-named concert venue in Framingham, Massachusetts this weekend.

Join us for traditional Acadian food followed by a concert in the spirit of the old custom of Acadian kitchen parties.  We'll be cooking up a bit of Acadian stew known as Fricot- the precursor to Cajun Gumbo, and other delicacies.  Fun for all ages including a chance to try some Acadian percussion instruments and maybe learn some French to sing along.  Click the link below for more information.

Vermont is on this Sunday

We've been waiting for a long time to play at La Festival du Nouveau Monde aka The New World Festival in Randolph, VT and not even a hurricane can stop us now.  All systems go for this Sunday  and we're playing all day long on three different stages:

  • 1pm in the family tent, presenting an interactive program for all ages: Acadian Culture in Maine, a Musical History
  • 3pm in the band sessions tent, trading songs and licks with Vermont's own Mango Jam
  • 5pm in the outdoor mainstage "Bethany" tent for our feature concert

see below for directions and more informations...

A message from director Becky McMeekin:

The New World Festival is on!

Despite the damage left in the wake of Hurricane Irene, the New World Festival will go on! The Festival was born out of adversity 19 years ago and this year we continue in that same optimistic and courageous spirit.

Join us in Randolph on Sunday Sept 4 from noon to midnight for stellar Celtic and French Canadian music and dance, children's activities, the work of area artisans, great food from area restaurants and non-profit organizations, and beverages from Otter Creek and Grandview Winery. Randolph is easily accessible from Interstate 89 from both the north and the south.

We hope to see you there!

Portland, Maine this Saturday

Dear Friends,

A reminder that Boréal Tordu will be appearing in concert this Saturday at One Longfellow Square in Portland, Maine along with Round Mountain from Santa Fe, New Mexico.  This is a very special double bill for us not only because Robby and Char of Round Mountain are Pip's cousins, but because their music is absolutely unforgettable and we're excited to share it with all of you.

For an appetizer, tune in to WMPG's online stream at 7:30pm tomorrow when Round Mountain will be playing live on the radio.  It'll make you want to see them on Saturday to figure out how two guys are playing all those instruments at once.

Don't forget that you can save 20% on tickets by ordering before Saturday.  For more information see www.onelongfellowsquare.com  Hope to see you all out there!

Boréal Tordu summer tourdates

Bonjour and thanks to our many new friends who signed the mailing list at KPops last weekend.  It was great to see so many people brave the forecast and be rewarded with great weather and great music.  Montréal was amazing as always and we're looking forward to a number of great shows coming up at home and away, starting in just a couple of days at the wonderful Deertrees Theatre in Harrison, Maine.

Then we're off to New York once again this year but with a slightly more relaxed schedule, so please to our fans out that way: make plans for a little trip if you can, we'd love to see you.

Lastly, we're proud to be sharing the stage at One Longfellow Square in Portland with Pip's cousins, Round Mountain, a multi-instrumental-at-the-same-time singing brother duo from Santa Fe who played here last year leaving no string unplucked and not a dry eye in the house.  An absolute must-see live act http://roundmountainmusic.com

Bonne été tout le monde,

Rob, Steve, Pip & Andy

Biddeford City Theatre

For the third year in a row, Biddeford’s City Theater/Salle de l’Opéra will be the site of an event that highlights the creativity of New England’s Franco-American population. The newly named “La Fête du Printemps,” best translated as a “Celebration of Spring,” will be held from Friday, March 25 through Sunday, March 27.  As in previous years, the Fête will spotlight playwrights and plays from the city and across New England in both English and French. However, the Fête has also expanded its presentations to include an evening of music that will feature Boréal Tordu, a four-piece, Maine-based band that specializes in traditional Acadian and French Canadian music. The Fête is also very pleased to announce that students from Biddeford High School will be a part of the French performances scheduled for Sunday, March 27. Admission to all Fête du Printemps events is FREE.

Joyeuse année

We had a blast on New Year's Eve here at 30 Mechanis Street. So many friends from diverse circles and an amazing array of musicians. Thanks to all who came and sang and drank and played and hugged and cheered and laughed and ate and stayed up late and fell over. Bontemps!
Also thanks to Acoustic Artisans for the New Year's Day party, which was as always meaty and musical. What a weekend.

My resolution is to blog a bit more, pis un peu en français pour practiquer. Je ne sais pas s'il y a des gens qui lit mon blog - en anglais où en français, mais c'est le même beaucoup de fun pour moi. Bonne nouvelle année tout le monde!
